Anatomy of an ultrasound
Bless the reproductive endocrinologist who tries again and again, with their needles, injected into a woman's belly as if it were - their own infertility problem. Bless the embryo that is under surveillance even before becoming [a human]. Bless its relatives who are rooting for a child, not even theirs. I was never their child, never a pride, turned a girl the least expected. Bless the males of the family who couldn't hold their life straight as the needles that created me. Bless the ambiguous and genderless it that held so much potential, fell short, like how I could have ceased to exist, again and again. I said exist because an embryo couldn't die and I was a fragile cell that my next, or second of kin adults prayed to be duplicated, but bless the dress that could be worn both ways because it was not that deep "my doctor asked me, 'if you won't be able to have a child, so what?'" my mother told me, years later, it was not that deep, I think, I am lucky and bless my mother but bless the embryos that could never choose their own will. Bless the family who made that robbery of autonomy less hurtful. I'm blessed.
